Extending SMIL with 3D audio

چکیده

This paper describes how SMIL can be extended to support 3D audio in a similar fashion than AABIFS does it for MPEG-4. The SMIL layout is extended with an extra dimension to support a 3D space. Then, audio elements are positioned in the 3D space, whilst a listener element defines a listening point. Similarly to AABIFS perceptual modeling approach, an environment element describes environmental parameters for the audio elements. As a conclusion, 3D audio enables interactive advanced audio capabilities in SMIL. In addition, any XML based rendering language could be extended with 3D audio capabilities using similar approach.

Towards SMIL as a foundation for multimodal, multimedia applications

Rich and interactive multimedia applications, where audio, video, graphics and text are precisely synchronized under timing constraints are becoming ubiquitous. Multimodal applications further extend the concept of user interaction combining different modalities, like speech recognition, speech synthesis and gestures. However, authoring dialog-capable multimodal, multimedia services is a very d...

A SMIL-based Lesson Recording System for Distance Learning

For Web-based distance learning, two types of lectures should be supported, live and on-demand lectures. In this paper, a SMIL-based recording system is proposed to support the preparation of the on-demand lessons. The lesson recording system records the lecturing materials, such as audio, video, HTML pages, and the annotation actions of the teacher, and converts them in the SMIL format. SMIL i...

Integration of QoS Guarantees into SMIL and its Flexible Implementation

In this paper, we propose a flexible implementation technique for integrating QoS guarantee facilities into SMIL language. In the proposed technique, we use a subclass of E-LOTOS (called real-time LOTOS) as an intermediate language since it can nicely treat timing constraints for actions and synchronization among parallel processes used in SMIL documents. We implement QoS control mechanisms usi...

Video on the Web: Experiences from SMIL and from the Ambulant Annotator

Since the arrival of YouTube on the desktop, video has entered its second lifetime on the Web. The main difference between this incarnation of video and its predecessors is at the source: where first generation video was about repurposing content, the YouTube generation is all about usergenerated content and few-to-few (rather than one-to-many) sharing. The fact that video is not new to the Web...

RTSP+FOHM: Applying Open Hypermedia and Temporal Linking to Audio Streams

The World Wide Web (WWW) was originally designed to handle relatively simple files, containing just text and graphics. With the development of more advanced Web browsers and streaming media protocols, it can now be used for the real-time delivery, display and playback of different types of media, including audio and video. The Synchronized Multimedia Integration Language (SMIL) has also been de...
